Philly Runs Free

Updated: Aug 6, 2019

Thousands line up to show their support for the Philadelphia cancer community.

On March 31st, over 2,500 runners of the Philly Love Half-Marathon and 7K participated in the Philly Runs Free program and raised over $128,000 to support cancer patients and their families as part of Legacy of Hope’s mission to see that no family faces financial hardship while a loved one battles cancer.  Legacy of Hope, in partnership with Live Life Nice and CGI Racing, delivered a serious blow to the financial distress that comes with a cancer diagnosis.

The Philly Runs Free program allowed registered participants of the half-marathon and 7K races the opportunity to fund raise on behalf of Legacy of Hope with a $200 goal.  When this goal was reached, the runner would have their racing fees refunded and get to enjoy the race for free!  In the spirit of “brotherly love”, the city of Philadelphia and surrounding areas responded with overwhelming support and participation.

YET AGAIN, PHILADELPHIA AND ITS NEIGHBORS TRULY PROVED THAT WE ARE A COMMUNITY UNITED AGAINST ALL FORMS OF CANCER.

Legacy of Hope is based in Philadelphia, and exists to provide emergency support for those fighting cancer and expedite new cures through strategic funding. Our focus is providing emergency patient support to Philadelphia’s most financially distressed cancer patients through a network made possible by partnerships with major hospitals and local organizations. Often described as the Emergency Medicine of patient support, Legacy of Hope steps in when patients and families have exhausted all other resources, and no longer have the capacity to provide themselves with basic necessities. Legacy of Hope’s funding expedites new cures by leveraging the knowledge of Philadelphia’s most experienced researchers and clinicians to select and fund Philadelphia’s brightest cancer researchers.
