Introducing: SRT109

Three years ago, Legacy of Hope and the Philadelphia Love Run Half Marathon formed a partnership often referred to as Philly Runs Free, which affords any runner the opportunity to race for free by raising $250 for Legacy of Hope. To date this partnership has raised over $190,000, providing emergency financial support for Philadelphia cancer patients, and allowing hundreds of runners to participate in the race for free.

Philly Runs Free brings in more donations yearly than any other event or fundraiser. So, when the coronavirus delayed the date of the Love Run to later this coming fall, we knew we had to switch gears- fast. That’s when John Sullivan and Kellen Matthews stepped in. These two men are extraordinary in every sense of the word. (More to come on that in a later post). Matthew and Sullivan are members of Earn Your Break, a community of athletes dedicated to raising money for charity by doing extreme fitness challenges. They suggested that for Legacy of Hope’s next fundraising event, the men would run the entirety -- that’s 109 miles-- of the Schuylkill River Trail in a period of two days.

On April 16th and 17th, join Legacy of Hope and Earn Your Break as Matthews and Sullivan conquer the entirety of the Schuylkill River Trail in support of Philadelphia’s most financially-distressed cancer patients. The event will begin at 9 am on the 16th, and there will be stations positioned every 8-12 miles along the trail. Your donations leading up to and during SRT109 will provide funding for Legacy of Hope. Donations are now being accepted to help us reach our goal of $36,000. These funds will allow us to provide cancer patients and their families with much-needed groceries to prevent hunger and relieve financial burden. The pandemic has been the cause of great challenges for the entire world, with cancer patients and their families being hit especially hard, financially and spiritually.

We hope that you will join us over the coming weeks to prepare for SRT109 by donating money, getting to know the runners, and finding out how you can participate in the event.
